On Tuesday, September 14 at Nags Head Elementary Dare County Schools Child Nutrition managers and assistants participated in "School Lunch Rocks." The professional development session was conducted by Ruth Niedomanski , a motivational speaker from Fredericksburg, Virginia with a long career in school nutrition. Niedomanski began her career in school nutrition as a substitute, working her way up to assistant manager and manager positions before becoming a food broker and trainer. Niedomanski challenged the group to work on continuous improvement of school nutrition.  Topics included customer service, marketing school meals, promoting fresh fruits and vegetables, putting forth a positive image, being a professional, and more.  Here, participants display discussion topic placards: all from left ‑ standing ‑ Peggy Angell, Aneida Bryant, Gail McMurran, Dawn Williams, Carolyn Kiefer, Amber Dodge, Ann Gilbert; seated ‑  Niedomanski and Carrie McClease.  Child Nutrition Director, Carol Sykes commented that the activity served to remind participants of the importance of teamwork, customer service, providing nutritious meals, and informing others of the excellent service that occurs daily in Dare County's school cafeterias.
