With more than 70 school and activity buses to maintain, and to create routes to accommodate approximately 2,000 student riders each day, Dare County Schools Transportation staff are in the flow of readying buses for the 2011-2012 school year. From top photo, Ray Warren (bottom) repairs the air conditioning unit while and Alex Chandler inspects the engine as he checks off items on a preventative maintenance list; Danny Wynegar steam cleans an engine and underside of a bus; and Transportation Information Manager Wendy Schwartz creates a bus route for Cape Hatteras Elementary School students. The first student day for the new school year is Thursday, August 25. Routes are posted for parents in mid-August. Change of address/residence verification forms for those families who may be relocating within the district, can be found here.
