ASEP will hold the GO FAR (Go Out For A Run) program twice this year, to coincide first semester with the OBX marathon in November; in the spring GO FAR holds its very own 5K road race. ASEP Director Samantha Brown says the GO FAR promotes healthy eating habits, physical fitness, character building and the benefits of staying fit and healthy. Students train twice weekly after school for eight weeks to prepare to run a 5K road race or one mile fun run. GO FAR will begin September 19th and the 5K and fun run race will be the weekend of the OBX Marathon, November 12, 2011. Information about the fall program will be released in late August. All Dare County elementary and middle school students are eligible to participate. ASEP also offers yoga weekly to its students as a part of its childhood obesity prevention initiatives.
Dare 's ASEP is staffed by twenty‑eight full and part‑time employees, and serves over 400 children. For more information on Dare County Schools After‑School Enrichment Program, or to register for participation, parents can contact the elementary school where their child attends.
Please note: The After School Enrichment Program is not available on Saturday makeup days. Parents should plan for their childrens' care as they would on any other Saturday after school is dismissed mid-day.
