Dare County Schools

Dare County Schools Personnel Director Trip Hobbs was on hand for move-in days for several DCS teachers on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the new Dare County Schools - Dare Education Foundation Teacher Housing "Run Hill Ridge" adjacent to the First Flight Schools campus in Kill Devil Hills.  The new housing is financed by an interest-free loan to DEF through the North Carolina State Employees Credit Union Foundation. The three eight-unit apartment buildings culminate a mission driven by the Dare County Board of Education since 2001 as part of its goal to recruit and retain quality teachers. Hobbs attends several university teacher fairs each year to recruit new teachers to Dare County.  “Being able to mention affordable teacher housing on the Outer Banks to prospective hires has made a tremendous difference in our recruiting efforts,” noted Hobbs.

New Dare County Schools teacher Mallory Hopkins is assigned to teach Spanish at Nags Head Elementary School.  Hopkins, a Manteo High School alum (Class of 2004) moved in her new apartment on August 1 with the help of her mom and dad, Katherine and Glen Hopkins.  DCS Personnel Director Trip Hobbs was on deck to assist with paperwork and provide support to the very first tenants of DEF's new Run Hill Ridge teacher housing.

“I have one word,” said Joe Tyson’s dad to Dare County Schools Personnel Director Trip Hobbs, “WOW!” Tyson’s mom and dad were in town to help their son move into one of the apartments that is in the new teacher housing complex adjacent to the First Flight Schools campus, and Joe's dad came downstairs to give his approval to Hobbs after checking out his son's new place. The teacher housing, initially envisioned by the Dare County Board of Education in 2001, became a reality in 2008 as the result of a partnership with the Dare Education Foundation and the NC State Employees Credit Union Foundation. New to Dare County Schools, Tyson (left) is an Exceptional Children’s teacher assigned to First Flight High School, who will assist FFHS Coach Jim Prince with the Nighthawks Football program.
