North Carolina State Board of Education member Kathy Taft came to Cape Hatteras Elementary School to recognize CHES as an Honor School of Excellence on Tuesday, December 15. Taft presented a banner to school personnel on behalf of the NC Department of Public Instruction at a school-wide assembly. Cape Hatteras Elementary School qualified for the honor by demonstrating high growth and achieving a composite proficiency score of 92 percent for school year 2008-2009. Only three schools in the Northeast Region of North Carolina and only 122 statewide qualified to receive this top state recognition.
