On Saturday, October 3, five Dare County Schools Exceptional Children's services staff members participated in the local annual Buddy Walk®. The event is held to raise awareness about Down Syndrome in communities across the US. In Dare County, the Buddy Walk starts at The Comfort Inn in Nags Head and proceeds north before turning around to complete the trek. Dare Schools EC staff, from left - First Flight Elementary School EC teacher, Angela Eaton; Dare Schools Consultant for the Hearing Impaired, Sue Daniels; Dare Schools Physical Therapist, Dr. Donna Wells; Dare Schools Occupational Therapist, Pat Fields; and Nags Head Elementary School EC student assistant, Gail Stilson. "The Exceptional Teachers take great pride in supporting the community's effort in raising awareness of children with Down Syndrome," noted Sue Daniels. The Buddy Walk® was established in 1995 to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. This is the seventh year the Buddy Walk has taken place in Dare County.
