CHSSCS DECA Notable Showing at State Competition

CHSSCS DECA students, from left - Chris Johnson, Kailee Pieno, Foster Mattingly and Victoria Gaskins, and Alana Harrison - placed at the NC Career Development Conference in Greensboro over the first weekend in March. Chris Johnson won as DECA Coastal Region Vice President; as the first Dare County student elected as a statewide DECA officer, he'll serve on the DECA state action team with three other VP's and the state president for 2012-2013. CHSSCS DECA is advised by marketing teacher Evan Ferguson. With their wins, Kailee, Foster, Victoria and Alana qualified to compete at the 2012 DECA International Career Development Conference (April 28-May 1) in Salt Lake City, Utah. They'll be joined by Johnson who will serve on the NC State Action Team to represent North Carolina.

Cape Hatteras Secondary School of Coastal Studies DECA students, advised by marketing teacher Evan Ferguson, not only placed in events at the NC Career Development Conference (March 1-3) to advance to national competition - they  made Dare County history to boot. Chris Johnson won as DECA Coastal Region Vice President. He is the first ever Dare County student to be elected as a statewide DECA officer. "Chris will serve on the DECA state action team with three other VP's and the state president for 2012-2013," said Ferguson.  Notably, Chris Johnson was a finalist in the Sports and Entertainment Business Operations Research Event.
 
Additionally, Kailee Pieno, Foster Mattingly and Victoria Gaskins took home fourth place in the Community Service Project Chapter Event for their project, Irene's Giving Tree; and Alana Harrison placed in the Principles of Finance competition; and have qualified to compete at the 2012 DECA International Career Development Conference (April 28-May 1) in Salt Lake City, Utah, where Johnson will serve on the NC State Action Team to represent North Carolina while in Utah.
